Angus’s life experience made him the prime representative for the role of Ambassador. He will be able to educate the community of topics like; being lost, having been abandoned, homelessness, humane treatment of animals and how community support of an organization can make a difference. Does this look familiar?
Central Nebraska Humane Society Mission Statement
The purpose of the Central Nebraska Humane Society is to provide shelter to lost and homeless animals, to educate the community about the humane care and treatment of all animals, to advocate animal welfare, and to further the bond between people and animals.
His Story: That at a young age this Bull Mastiff faced the devastating reality so many pets are dealt by being abandoned and left homeless. Loner is one of the lucky ones! For three years compassionate individuals tried to come to his aid. Residents in the area and employees at the meat packing plant provided food, shelter via their barn by leaving the door open, and several attempted rescues. Health issues became apparent in December 2009 and the decision to use sedation was the only option left.
How a community responded to his needs involved the skills of the Stolley Park Veterinarian Hospital, Grand Island Police Department, Animal Control Authority and the Central Nebraska Humane Society as they collaborated to accomplish this assignment. After a good report on his physical condition he was scheduled to have surgery to remove a one pound tumor from his hind leg. Then the emotional recovery began! Within days a terrible fear of people turned into a severe issue of separation anxiety. Angus began to flourish when he was able to be at the Adoption Center during the day with his new friends and then enjoy the comforts of home at night with even more friends to enjoy.
This opportunity as an Ambassador with allow Angus to continue to be the community’s pet. He is thrilled to receive their attention, give a thank you wag, or peek over the counter with a woof to welcome you as you enter the Adoption Center. With numerous offers to be adopted the choice was difficult. This prospect seems to be the best for Angus and all the people who love him.
